Anticariogenic action and safety profile of a cacao bean husk extract: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Nowadays, there is not a meta-analytic synthesis of the clinical reports that used cacao bean husk extract (CBHE) solution as an anticariogenic mouth rinse. Thus, aim this study was to evaluate information through systematic review and meta-analysis methodology, conducted in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Scientific databases were searched for studies published up June 2021. Inclusion exclusion criteria applied found then, their data analyzed. The five selected categorized 36.6, 58.5, 4.9 % low, unclear, high risk bias, respectively. Under appropriate heterogeneities (I2 values from 0 65 %, p > 0.09) absent reporting bias (symmetrical funnels), meta-analyses show use CBHE rinse reduced salivary count Streptococcus mutans (Z 2.45 10.61, < 0.01), similar chlorhexidine performance value= 0.55, 0.58), produced insignificant presence adverse events 0.92, 0.36) children adults, all these effects compared those volunteers under ethanol or pretest conditions. In conclusion, cariogenic bacterium acceptable safety profile, but more quality parameters are needed.
